IT is only a matter of time before gaping potholes in a busy street lead to a serious accident, claim residents.
The deep holes in Sunnyside Road, Epping - some as wide as 2ft - were first reported to the council after the freezing weather in December last year.
But residents say they have still not had a response from the authority - eight months on.
Roy Redgwell, 74, is a resident of Sunnyside Road.
He said: “You get cars jumping all over the place. All the neighbours feel that if something isn’t done a car will get badly damaged, lose control and crash in to another vehicle.”
The narrow road is one of the busiest in the area, with taxi and delivery drivers using it as a shortcut, and commuters using nearby Epping Tube station parking in the street.
Mr Redgwell said that commuters’ cars often park just feet away from the biggest pothole, leaving vehicles no room to maneuver round it.
Resident Colin Doe, 72, said: “It is dangerous. I lay in bed and hear the drivers who don’t know the holes are there and can’t see them hit them hard.
“I think a car could even jump up and hit someone on the pavement.”
He said that, due to the potholes and parked cars at the bend, drivers sometimes have no choice but to give up and reverse all the way back up Sunnyside Road.
