COMMUNITY leaders will be immediately informed via a text messaging service of any future scenes of violent disorder in the borough.

The announcement was made at a meeting organised by the Redbridge Safer Communities Partnership at Redbridge Town Hall last night (Thursday).

The meeting was organised to allow those involved with the local community to share their ideas on ways to solve problems raised by the recent outbreaks of disorder.

Borough commander Detective Chief Superintendent Sue Williams told the audience of volunteers, faith leaders and business people they would be the first to know if any trouble breaks out in future.

She said: “In the very near future, our borough is going to have a Neighbourhood Link System.

“This is an email/text system that will make for a much quicker response if anything like this happened again.”

She urged all those present to sign up to the scheme.

Redbridge Council's chief services to young people officer, Ronke Martins-Taylor, told those gathered that text messages had been sent out to young people and parents during the recent disturbances, asking them to stay inside.

She also said that even though schools were closed for the summer holidays, they had been contacted to spread the word among young people in the borough to keep safe.
