THE COUNCIL will spend a £300,000 Transport for London grant on paving a section of Wanstead High Street.
The work will involve resurfacing the asphalt walkway on the park side of the road and replacing some sections with new paving stones.
Reconstruction is due to start on October 19 this year and finish on March 31 2012, meaning that some of the work will take place during the busy Christmas shopping period.
Areas due to be reconstructed run between Woodbine Place and New Wanstead and also outside Struan House in Wanstead Place.
An area between Gwynne House and 12 Station Parade will also be affected.
A council spokeswoman said: “The works are on the park side and will complete the well received walking scheme funded by Transport for London.”
The majority of shops on the High Street are located on the other side of the road where there is currently no plan to carry out works.
