LOCAL people will get the chance to forage for food in Wanstead Park.
The ‘Food for Free’ walk has been organised by local environmental group The Wanstead Transition Initiative.
Herbalists Vanessa Neville and Jude Greenan will lead the walk, pointing out plants which can be eaten or used for medicinal purposes.
Wanstead Transition Initiative member Dan Hoyle has been helping organise the day.
He said: “We’re aiming to open people’s eyes to the fact that there’s plenty of food for free on their doorstep.
“We’ll be gathering food including blackberries and chestnuts.
“If the day is a success, we’ll be looking to make it a regular fixture on the calendar.”
The event is planned for September 10 at 10am. The walk costs £5 for adults, children go free.
Places are limited and anyone interested is asked to call Dan Hoyle on 07736 669 232 or email mail@transitionwanstead.org.uk to book.
