A GREAT great grandmother celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by well wishers.
Annie Ada Nichols was visited by family members at her home in Priory avenue, Walthamstow, on July 18.
Born in Poplar, she moved to Waltham Forest 71 years ago, where she has lived all her life and is now cared for by one of her daughters, Pauline Dickeson, 75.
Following her marriage in 1935 to Nick Nichols, who worked on the railways, she had four children, Pauline, Irene, Margaret and Ronnie.
She also worked in a school and at a rubber factory.
Mr and Mrs Nichols regularly visited the Walthamstow Trades Hall social club in Hoe Street, where Annie indulged her love of dancing until the age of 93.
She was widowed in 1990 at the age of 79, when her husband died suddenly.
Her daughter Irene Hosken, 71, of Harrow Road, Leytonstone, added: “When you think about hard things were back then and how hard she has worked, to live to this age is amazing.
“She is still very spritely and has a strong character.
“I am very proud of her.”
Mrs Nichols has four children, five granchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
