HUNDREDS of pupils across Waltham Forest are receiving their A and AS Levels this morning, with the national pass rate rising for the 29th year in a row.

Full borough-wide figures are expected to be released later today, but across the country overall pass rates rose from 97.6 per cent last year to 97.8 per cent.

It comes amid record demand for university places and this is the last year students can enter higher education before new tuition fee rules are introduced.

Updates from schools and colleges from across the borough as we receive them:

SIR GEORGE MONOUX COLLEGE

The college, in Chingford Road, Walthamstow, has achieved an overall pass rate of 98 per cent.

In total, 18 out of 30 A Level subjects achieved 100 per cent pass rates and a third of all A Level grades were As or Bs.

There was also success for its BTEC students. In total 16 out of 22 BTEC courses had 100 per cent pass rates.

Principal Paolo Ramella said: “This year has been another fantastic year for our A levels and BTEC results.

"We are delighted that our A level pass rate is 98 per cent and that so many of our learners are achieving A or B grades enabling them to progress to the UK’s top universities.

"Our examination results are a tribute to the hard work of our staff, students, parents and our local community”.

LEYTON SIXTH FORM COLLEGE

A total of 21 A2 subjects saw all students pass their exames, including Art, English Language and Literature, Photography, Business Studies, 3D Design, French, Spanish, Performance Studies, Textiles, Further Maths, Applied Science, Graphics, Media Studies and Music.

"Our A2 pass rate reached 98 per cent with no failures at all in 21 subjects and many tremendous individual performances.

“Equally impressively, all 176 students on BTEC National Diploma programmes – which range from Art and Design to Information Technology, Business to Performing Arts – were successful.

“These results owe everything to the talents and hard work of our students and to the commitment and dedication of the staff who have guided and supported them. The task of continuing to raise standards from such a high base will be more challenging than ever next year.”

WALTHAMSTOW ACADEMY

Staff at the Billet Road school say it has achieved its best ever A Level results.
