TWO men who travelled around Loughton and Buckhurst Hill in a stolen car which crashed into other vehicles during a police chase have been jailed.
Zac Atwell, 24, and Shea Kenny, 21, were caught inside a black BMW on Monday July 25, after an Automatic Number Plate Recognition camera spotted the car and notified police.
There was then what officers described as a "short" pursuit where the car collided with two other vehicles before the pair were arrested in Lower Queens Road, Buckhurst Hill.
The vehicle had been reported stolen from a burglary in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, between half past midnight and 7am the same day.
Both defendants pleaded guilty at St Albans Crown Court.
Kenny, formally of Moor Tower, Harlow, was given 12 months imprisonment at a hearing yesterday (Thursday August 18) for aggravated taking a vehicle without consent and a further two months for driving without insurance, to be served concurrently.
He has also been banned from driving for 15 months.
Atwell, of Abbeydale Close, Harlow, was recalled to prison until 2014 after he admitted allowing himself to be carried in a stolen motor vehicle.
Detectives are still appealing for information or witnesses about those responsible for the theft.
Detective Constable Charlie Hare said: "Following this positive result, I would appeal to anyone who has any information about the burglary in Hoddesdon where this vehicle was stolen.
"We are carrying out several lines of enquiry but would like the public’s assistance in bringing this case to a successful conclusion.
"If you saw anything suspicious or know anything about those involved in this incident, please come forward to the police.”
A police spokesman added: "Anyone with information should contact DC Hare citing crime reference number K1/11/1873 on the non-emergency number 101.
"Alternatively, call Crimestoppers, an independent charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111."
