FOUR arrests were made this morning after police raided six Redbridge homes in connection with the riots.

Three were arrested at the addresses but another three were missing, while one more person gave themself up to the police some hours later.

It follows the news that three suspects were arrested over the riots after their images were included in local newspapers last week.

Shops in Woodford Green and South Woodford were hit by chaos and violence after rioting spread from Ilford town centre on August 8.

Woodford Carpet Shop, in High Road, Woodford Green, was torched after rioters hit the town after spreading from Ilford, before looting Richard Miles jewellers in George Lane, South Woodford, and smashing the windows of Nationwide bank, on the same street.

The Metropolitan Police (Met) have now made 80 arrests, with 43 charged and a further 51 arrest warrants issued in connection with riots in the borough.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Neil Lemon said: “This sends out the message that we will pursue all suspects and that we are committed to a full and thorough investigation [into the rioting].”

“I’m very confident we will identify the rest of the suspects because we have very good quality CCTV footage and the public have been very helpful in coming forward with information.”

He revealed that some officers have been working 28 days without a break now to deal with the riots and their aftermath and added that more would be idenitifed when the police start to go through 1,500 hours of private CCTV footage.

Over half of the suspects arrested are aged between 16 and 21, while 61 per cent live in the borough and 40 per cent are employed.

Acting DCI Lemon said: “This would imply the riots aren’t as driven by poverty as people might think.”

However, he defended the Met’s review of Wanstead Police Station, in Spratt Hall Road, Wanstead, and Woodford Police Station, in High Road, Woodford Green, which could close to save money, saying police teams will remain in their areas whether they closed or not.
