TEENAGERS across the district are opening their GCSE results this morning (Thursday).

At the Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College in Chigwell, 100 per cent of results in English literature, French, extension science and IT were at A* to C grades.

More children than ever sat exams in modern languages at the college, including Spanish, Punjabi and Gujurati.

At West Hatch High School in Chigwell, 80 per cent of pupils achieved five of more A* to C grades - a seven per cent rise on last year's results.

Ahlem Bennacer achieved 13 A grades, seven of which were A*s, Reshma Khalique gained 10 As, five of which were A*s, Denise Cheung achieved 14 A grades, including three at A* and Eloise Shepherd gained 12 As, including five A*s.

Head-teacher Frances Howarth said: "So many of our students have done well.

"Congratulations to them and their teachers. Recognition must also go to parents for all the support and encouragement they must have shown too."

At Chigwell School, 92 per cent of grades were at a B or above, 68 per cent were A or above and a third were A* grades.

Elle Shum achieved 11 A* grades, Stuart Innes and Rachel Maton both gained 10 A*s, and Annalise Armitage, Rickesh Bedia, Jack Kempe, Haroon Hussain and Jessica Maton all achieved at least nine A*s.

Pupils at Roding Valley High School in Loughton broke last year’s record for GCSE results.

More than 70 per cent of pupils clocked up five grades at A* to C, with 56 per cent achieving five A* to C grades including maths and English.

Amy Barritt, Frances Bell, Annette Benbow, Emily Bright, Bethany Long and Diva Sohotey passed all their exams at grade A or A*, while 31 pupils achieved 13 or more GCSEs at grades A* to C.

Head-teacher Paul Banks said: “This is a fantastic achievement for the students involved and for the school.

“I am absolutely delighted that we have, once again, set new records of attainment and I am thrilled for the students involved.

“Everyone should be incredibly proud of their efforts.”

Debden Park School, also in Loughton, improved its GCSE results for the fifth year in a row, with 85 per cent of pupils achieving at least five A* to C grades.

The proportion of pupils who gained five A* to C grades including maths and English was 67 per cent.

Pupil Robyn Buisson, 16, of Forest Drive, Theydon Bois, achieved four A*s, three As and six Bs.

She said: "I called all my family and they were very pleased.

"We all went to my Nan's. Some of my cousins are in the same year as me and they all did really well as well."

She said she was particularly proud of her B in history, which she only started studying for 12 weeks before the exam, so she could gain an English Baccalaureate as well as her GCSEs.

At King Harold Business and Enterprise Academy in Waltham Abbey, 63 per cent of pupils achieved five or more A* to C grades.

Just under 30 per cent of exam results at the school were A* to B grades and 43 per cent of pupils gained at least eight GCSEs at grades A* to C.

Head-teacher Denice Halpin said: “Congratulations in particular go to the two students who gained A* or A grades in eight or more subjects.

“These are remarkable achievements and reflect the continued rise in academic standards at the school.

“Students and staff have worked incredibly hard to bring about these results and I would like to congratulate them on their success.”

At Davenant Foundation School in Loughton, 83 per cent of pupils achieved five or more A* to C grades, with just under 75 per cent reaching the standard including maths and English.

Pupils Holly Bedeau, Joshua Dronsfield, Beth Grant, Lara McMurray and Naomi Rowden all gained eight A* grades.

Head-teacher Chris Seward said: "Preparing for examinations is pressurised for both students and their parents, so these results are well-deserved.

"Like most schools, we want the best for every student, whatever their potential and we are confident that nearly all students will now be able to progress on to appropriate post-16 courses either at Davenant or elsewhere."

At Braeside School in Buckhurst Hill, 91 per cent of grades were at A* to C, with 39 per cent of entrants were at A* or A grades.

Head-teacher Gillian Haddon said: “All of the pupils worked very hard and truly deserve the grades which they have been awarded.

“They have all secured places at local independent or state sixth forms and will be continuing with confidence on their educational journeys.”

Almost 40 per cent of pupils at St John's School in Epping achieved at least one A or A*, with 93 per cent gaining at least one C grade.

Head-teacher George Yerosimou said: "I am again extremely proud of the GCSE achievements of our Year 11 students, with all targets being exceeded for the second year running.

"These results are a testament to the hard work, dedication and determination of our staff and students."
