A MAN is due to appear in court today (Monday) after being charged with trying to seriously injure two police officers during riots in the borough.
Jah-Kiel McDermott, 28, of Inglehurst Gardens, Gants Hill, Ilford, was charged with two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent following the incident in Royston Avenue, Chingford, on August 8.
The two Pcs had been dealing with reports of looting at Aristocrats clothes shop in Chingford Mount Road when they were hit by a green Citroen.
Police arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder yesterday (Sunday).
They charged McDermott last night and he is due to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court in Bow Road, Tower Hamlets, later today.
A 31-year-old man was previously arrested and has been bailed, to return to police in September.
