Chelsea have failed in a player plus cash bid to bring Liverpool midfielder Raul Meireles to the club.
The Blues have reportedly offered around £8 million for the Portuguese international plus Yossi Benayoun.
Chelsea are now weighing up whether to make a new bid or look elsewhere.
