HOMELESS cats found somewhere permanent to live after visitors flooded into a sanctuary yesterday (Monday).

Kittens Pippa and Kate were among the seven residents of Chestnut Cat Sanctuary in Thornwood Common High Road that found homes after the centre opened its doors.

Gill Beard, 60, the sanctuary’s manager, said: "Pippa and Kate have been in the sanctuary since they were babies and had problems with their tummies, but now they’re fine.

"A young couple from Coopersale came in and reserved them, so they will go home with them next week.

"It was a fabulous day and the sanctuary was packed to the gills.

"We homed two cats on the day and five were reserved, so they'll be going home at the weekend.

"We've got 100 cats on the waiting list, but because of the financial climate, we can’t just take in cats.

"At the moment, we will be replacing what’s gone."

She said another cat, Harry, which came to the sanctuary with another cat, William, around the time of the Royal Wedding in April, was still looking for a home.

"He’s very nervous and we’re hoping to re-home him with another cat called Monty," she said. "Harry is only one and Monty is a bit older, maybe three."

The sanctuary currently has about 25 cats. Anyone interested in re-homing a cat should call the sanctuary on 01992 560510.
