THOUSANDS of people watched jousting and archery displays as part of a medieval re-enactment event this weekend.
About 2,000 visitors attended the Medieval Experience at the Royal Gunpowder Mills in Waltham Abbey on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, where they also had a chance to speak to an actor playing Robin Hood.
Liz Went, the volunteer co-ordinator at the mills, said: “We’ve had both jousting and Robin Hood before, but combined them this year, so we had a whole medieval event.
“The audience could watch the jousting experience and the horses looked stunning.
“When they were walking the horses back, there was a gathering of people to see the horses and the knights were in character. It’s like going back in time.
“Robin Hood did archery displays. The arrows were on fire and it was very impressive, a brilliant performance.”
