STRONG men flipped tractor tyres and hauled 400-pound weights during a competition on Sunday.
They battled it out at the Krunch Gym in Brooker Road, Waltham Abbey, as part of a family fun day there.
Gym owner Neale Cranwell said: “One event was the farmer’s walk, which is there you pick up two objects in each hand and run as far as you can.
“After that was the 350 kilo (770lbs) tyre flip, where they had 60 seconds to flip the tyre as many times as they could.
“One of the winners was Salvo Riggi, who’s one of my members. He’s gone from being able to flip the tyre three times in training to seven times on the day of the competition, so it really does boost your performance with the crowd there.
“About 150 people came in the morning to watch and about 25 competitors came from as far as Wales and Nottingham.
“It was a brilliant day and we had a fantastic commentator, Martin Cee, a Cockney guy with a real sense of humour, who brought the audience into it.”
