A WOMAN who was lost late at night was sexually assaulted by a group of men.

The 21-year-old was walking in Waterside, off Coppermill Lane in Walthamstow, at around 2.55am when she asked a man for directions to Stamford Hill.

While speaking to the man, described as white, around 20 years old and wearing light-coloured clothes and a hoodie, she realised he was with three others.

He led her down the street and she assumed he was taking her in the right direction, police say. But when they got to a nearby park the group attacked her.

They were disturbed by a cyclist riding by close to the scene and the woman managed to escape.

A police spokesman said: "Detectives are keen to speak to the cyclist who may have witnessed the incident and urging him or her to get in touch with the police."

Officers from the Project Sapphire unit are investigating.

No arrests have been made.
