COMEDY star Meera Syal met contributors to a major community art event, which starts this weekend.
The comedy actress, best known for her roles in Goodness Gracious Me and The Kumars At No 42, attended a preview event for the Wanstead Art Trial, which kicks off on Sunday (September 11).
The event at the George in High Street, Wanstead, was held to celebrate local artists.
The two-week Art Trail provides the opportunity for around 200 artists to exhibit their work in local shops and venues across the area.
Mrs Syal said: “I hope this is just the beginning for art in Wanstead.”
"People don't think of Wanstead as a Hackney [art area] yet, but I think it is only a matter of time. The fact that the community is so involved is brilliant too – so many venues are agreeing to support this trail.”
Organiser Donna Mizzi said: “It was fantastic and it was lovely to have Meera’s support.
"She’s always so natural and she gave an intelligent insight into what she thought of the trail and how it’s good for Wanstead, showing how much culture and talent we have here.”
