A FAMILY whose house was burgled of £8,000 worth of Asian gold jewellery no longer feel safe in their own home.
The parents of two – who wish not to be named due to fears the burglars will seek them out – say they have trouble trusting people after their home in Canfield Road, Woodford Green, was burgled on August 29.
The 36 and 34-year-old man and wife believe the criminals were watching them for possibly weeks before the burglary, seeking an opportune time to break in.
The wife, who works as a programmer, said: “We came home and the house was ransacked. You couldn’t see our bedroom floor upstairs because everything we have had been chucked everywhere.”
“I haven’t been in the house on my own since. It’s horrible to think someone’s abused your trust. You think you’re safe in your own home, but you’re not.”
Their six-year-old girl and four-year-old boy slept with their parents for a week after the incident.
The burglars picked the five-lever lock on the couple’s back door to gain entry, leaving a laptop on the kitchen table alone as they searched for the jewellery, much of which was wedding gifts.
The man, a business analyst, said their neighbour spotted two men looking at the house at around 4pm.
They were described as white and wearing hooded jumpers.
He added that last year, the couple received a note on their car which read ‘I’m watching you’.
He said: “I think it could be dustbin men, gardeners or postmen who know the places locally. It had to be someone who knows our routines.”
The police is still investigating the case. Four homes were burgled on June 16 in similar raids.
Criminals stole £75,000 worth of Asian gold jewellery from the houses in Woodford Green, South Woodford and Wanstead.
No one has been arrested in connection with those burglaries.
The family of Canfield Road are fitting new locks and an alarm system next week.
