TWO dozen people were rescued from a blaze that engulfed the upper floors of a Leytonstone tower block overnight.
It took around 60 firefighters five hours to extinguish the fire, which started on the 13th and 14th floors of 16-storey Fred Wigg Tower at around 11.30pm last night(December 12).
Eighty people were evacuated from the estate in Montague Road while a further 24 trapped residents were rescued by fire crews.
The fire was under control at 4.08am and a spokesman said everyone had been accounted for.
