A TEENAGER was stabbed in the stomach in a reported gang fight at Walthamstow Central station.

The row broke out in the ticket hall at around 4.30pm this afternoon (Thursday May 10).

The injured teen, believed to be aged 15, was taken to hospital.

A second youth, aged around 16, suffered a cut to his finger and was treated at the scene by ambulance crews.

A spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) said officers were called to reports of an "altercation" between a group of youths in the ticket hall lobby.

He added: "Officers are working to establish the full circumstances of the incident, including how the youths came to be injured."

There are rumours that the fight was gang-related.

All train services at the station were suspended in the immediate aftermath, but the underground stop is now operating as normal.

Trains on the Chingford to Liverpool Street overground line are currently passing through the station but not stopping.

The condition of the stabbed teenager has not been disclosed by police this evening.

However Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy tweeted that the injuries to those involved are not life-threatening.

BTP is urging witnesses and those with information to call officers on freephone number 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference "379 May 10th".
