MILLIONS of people will watch Leytonstone schoolchildren perform in the Olympics closing ceremony.

About 50 pupils from Leytonstone School successfully auditioned to represent Waltham Forest in London 2012’s sign-off event this summer, which will be broadcast around the globe.

And the children from the school in Colworth Road, Leytonstone, think the news is “out of this world” despite not yet knowing what they will be asked to do.

Hamza Siidiqui, 12, said: “It feels amazing but I am a bit nervous. We haven’t been told what we will be doing yet but it’s out of this world to be taking part.”

Eliza Ullersperger, 13, added: “It’s extremely exciting. I hope we do some like dancing, but not something too difficult.

“We haven’t got tickets to any of the events so my mum and dad are very proud and excited they’ll be able to see us on TV.”

Schoolmate Islam Feffih, 12, said: “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance. I’m nervous and happy at the same time to be performing in front of so many people and on TV.”

The school’s partnership development manager, Natalie Fitzgerald, believes the opportunity means the pupils, all aged between 11 and 13, can become inspirational figures to others and pass on the “community spirit” of the Games.

She added: “When we heard the news we had to pinch ourselves. I want them to experience what it’s like to be a part of history and to spread the community spirit of the Olympics.”
