THE number of driving tests will be slashed in response to expected congestion on the roads during the Olympics.
Wanstead's Driving Standards Authority (DSA) test centre has said there will be three a day, rather than the usual seven.
A spokesman for DSA Test Centre said: "That will give candidates and examiners time to get back to the test centre if they get stuck in traffic due to the estimated three million extra journeys that are expected to take place during the Olympics.
"If we find the roads we use are not as badly affected by traffic as we first thought then we will return to normal.
"It would be unfair to expect someone to take a test under those conditions."
Road users are being advised to avoid driving in and around Wanstead and Redbridge in the evening and morning peaks from late July to mid August.
The planned reduction in lessons will take place from July 27 to August 12 and again between August 29 and September 9.
