PEOPLE living in the borough have been urged to contact London mayor Boris Johnson over the decision to build a housing estate at Walthamstow Stadium.

Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy has said via her website that the mayor will make the final decision on whether developers London and Quadrant (L&Q) can build 294 homes at the dog track by May 25.

Waltham Forest Council gave L&Q permission for the development last week, but a condition was that the plans should be referred to Mr Johnson before work can begin.

Ms Creasy said in a statement on her website: “The mayor is only likely to intervene if he feels issues around this application are of key strategic importance to London itself, such as the delivery of the right homes and jobs for the capital.

“If you think a better use could be made for this site which will bring benefits to all of London, it is important to let him know your views.”

Chingford MP Iain Duncan Smith also expressed his disappointment at the decision, which was made last Tuesday (May 8).

Anyone who wants to send Mr Johnson their views can email mayor@london.gov.uk.
