RESIDENTS who were given just three days notice of a week-long ban on parking in their street due to an Olympics concert should have been given more warning, the council has admitted.

The authority introduced an eight-day ban on all vehicles from Brisbane Road in Leyton on Sunday (May 13).

The council is holding its 'Party on the Pitch' concert to celebrate the Olympics at Leyton Orient FC's ground there on Saturday May 19, and said it needs time to prepare the area.

But the street does not have permit parking, unlike most of the surrounding roads, leaving residents with few places nearby to park. They were also only informed of the restrictions on Thursday (May 8).

Cllr Clyde Loakes, Cabinet Member for Environment, said in a statement on Monday that residents would be sent letters informing them that they had special dispensation to park in the permit roads.

However families in the street told the Guardian today they had still not received them, although they have been sent tickets to the concert.

Cllr Loakes said in a statement: “I would like to apologise to local residents for the lack of notice about the parking restrictions on Brisbane Road.

"Local people should have been informed earlier so that they could make alternative arrangements."

Resident Cheryl Moran, 35, described the council's organisation of the event as a "shambles".
