A POLICE officer based in Waltham Forest has been speaking of her excitement as she prepares to accompany the Olympic Torch around Britain.

PC Judy Lewin is one of 35 officers who has been selected from more than 600 applicants to join the Torch Security Team (TST) as a runner.

The TST will travel with the torch from the moment it is handed over to LOCG representatives in Athens today (May 17) until it reaches the Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony.

PC Lewin, 35, who originally hails from Yorkshire, will run up and down the country keeping pace with the Torch Bearer to ensure their security.

A keen cyclist and runner, PC Lewin has completed several Marathons and has been training hard for her role as a police runner.

She said: “The Olympics are a once in a life time opportunity, not just for me in my role on the TST, but for all those athletes and participants who have trained for so long for this one moment.

“It’s something that truly brings people together, and I’m looking forward to the excitement and positive atmosphere the Games will bring this summer.”

Other members of the 70 strong TST include motorcyclists, senior officers to make command and tactical decisions, communication officers to relay messages to the torch security team and operational planners.
