A GROUP of young adults with learning disabilities were taken on a bus tour of Waltham Forest as part of an event designed to boost their confidence and safety.
The 18 men and women, from the Leytonstone-based Eastway Care support group, were taken on the double-decker from Walthamstow to Chingford on Wednesday (May 16) as part of the 'Safe Travel for All' scheme.
The project aims to help vulnerable young adults gain experience in travelling alone, while also offering them tips on how to stay safe and how to understand timetables.
It was organised by PCSO Maddie Jukes from Waltham Forest Police's Safer Transport Team, and was supported by Transport for London (TfL), British Transport Police (BTP) and the Met.
PCSO Jukes said: "The young people have really benefited from the experience.
"All members of the community should feel safe to travel on public transport in Waltham Forest."
Chief Superintendent Sultan Taylor added: "Safe Travel for All is a fantastic initiative helping those who may feel vulnerable whilst travelling to become more confident and travel safety aware."
TfL have launched a new card designed to offer help for travellers with learning difficulties. Call London Travel Information on 0843 222 1234 for more information.
