HUNDREDS of schoolchildren attempted to beat a world dancing record to celebrate the Olympics.
Pupils at Ainslie Wood Primary School in Chingford joined thousands of children across the country in a bid to create the largest, multi-venue, simultaneous dance routine.
The current record was set in the Netherlands, where 264,000 took part in 2010.
The children dressed in the colours of the Olympic rings and performed moves based on Olympic sports as part of the six-minute Big Dance 2012 on Friday (May 18).
Participant Gillian Mwaramba, 11, said: "It was very good fun, I really hope we've beaten the record. I'd be really happy and we'd buy a copy of the world records book if we did."
PE co-ordinator Nina Janowski said the event was a great chance for the pupils to become part of history.
"They absolutely loved it," she added. "They have been part of something really big. Dancing is great exercise too, it really takes it out of you."
The school will now send video recordings of the dance to the judges and must wait to discover whether the record was broken.
