IT had a touch more glamour than your average League One football match – and it was free to get in!
Party on the Pitch, Waltham Forest Council’s latest Big 6 event to help its residents celebrate the Olympics, saw a host of top acts perform in front of adoring crowds on Leyton Orient’s hallowed turf.
Cover Drive, The Saturdays, Alexandra Burke and Scouting For Girls belted out hit after hit to an adoring audience, which was also treated to an energetic set from dance troupe Unity UK and a gutsy performance from Waltham Forest’s Mizz Camara.
West Ham winning promotion over at Wembley and Chelsea playing for European glory on TV can’t have helped the attendance but a crowd of more than 7,500 generated a fantastic atmosphere and a lot of noise.
Council leader Chris Robbins, said: “The event itself was absolutely stunning and the performers were spot on.
“There was a fantastic atmosphere on the pitch and in the stands, and it was amazing to see so many residents smiling, dancing and having the time of their lives.
“The Big 6 are our way of helping residents celebrate 2012 and say ‘thank you’ for bearing with us during Games time.”
