THE clockwise carriageway of the M25 remains closed this morning (Friday) after a fatal lorry crash last night.

A man in his 50s died at the scene after his truck, believed to have been carrying spirits, crashed into another between junction 27 for the M11 and junction 28 for the A12 at about 1am. A third lorry was also involved.

The driver of the second truck suffered minor injuries and did not need to go to hospital.

Two of the lorries were on fire until 3am.

Six fire crews, from Loughton, Epping, Brentwood and Harlow, were on the scene, as well as a search and rescue team and an incident command unit.

The carriageway is not expected to reopen before 10am and a diversion is in place via the M11, A406 and A12.

The Met Police are investigating the crash and any witnesses should call the Road Death Investigation Unit on 020 8597 4874.
