A RECORD number of fake coins worth £4.1million was seized after police raided cars and buildings.
The money, which included blank coins that had not yet been stamped, was found in a property and two cars in Waltham Abbey, as well as two other locations in Enfield and Hertfordshire.
Three men aged 52, 43 and 27, have been arrested and are being held at a north London police station on suspicion of producing counterfeit money, fraud and money laundering.
Detective Inspector Bruce South said the money was being made on an industrial scale.
“This seizure is a significant blow to the network behind it,” he added. “Individuals clearly intent on undermining the UK monetary system by producing counterfeit money.”
Police refused to say where in Waltham Abbey the money was seized.
