POLICE raided a cannabis factory following a tip-off from members of the community.

Officers seized the drugs from a house in Melville Road, Walthamstow, earlier today (Friday May 25).

The illegal plants were found growing in three rooms.

No arrests were made.

Police also raided two addresses in Chingford but nothing was found.

It was part of the Met's 'Operation Hawk', which involves officers from Safer Neighbourhoods Teams pursuing suspected criminals based on information from the public.

Inspector John Lowe, who took part in the Walthamstow raid, said: "We want people to tell us about crime in their area. With your help we can make your area safer.

"Information given to us will be carefully considered and acted on as quickly as possible.

"We have had one really positive result today as a result of information supplied by the community. Cannabis factories are dangerous can be a potential fire hazard."

The Guardian is awaiting further details of how many cannabis plants were seized.
