OLYMPIC planners have spent years transforming Stratford ahead of the Games this summer, but it took a local school just one day to realise their vision of a Lego Olympics.
Pupils at Avon House School in Woodford Green used thousands of colourful bricks to build a model version of the Olympic Village and the surrounding area.
The children, aged between three and 11, made their own stadium, laid railway tracks and roads and even put together a version of the nearby Westfield shopping centre – complete with escalators.
The impressive project was part of an Olympic-themed week at the school.
Head teacher, Amanda Campbell, said: “We started with an inspirational talk from Paralympic gold medal winner Noel Thatcher and ended on a glorious summer’s day with mini Olympic sports day.
“A really good time was had by all with lots to look forward to as London 2012 is on our doorstep.”
