YOUNGSTERS were treated to a display of triple jumping by an Olympic athlete.
Larry Achike was visiting Ray Lodge Primary School in Woodford Green.
More than 600 pupils clapped and cheered as the British star demonstrated his run up technique before jumping around 14 metres across the school playground.
The school’s learning mentor, Jane Griffin, said: “We didn’t have enough mats to cover the distance he usually jumps and no-one wanted to run the risk of him injuring himself on the concrete, so he shortened his jump.
“The children are getting very excited about the Olympics and seeing an athlete in action was brilliant for them.”
The school will hold its own Olympic-themed sports day next month, complete with an opening ceremony.
