STREET parties help bring communities together, said a woman who is organising a Jubilee celebration after the success of last year's royal wedding street party.
Isla Hunwick, 33, said she and her neighbours in Winns Avenue, Walthamstow, have grown closer since Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge tied the knot last April, when they held a street party to commemorate the event.
And she said the community will be enjoying the warm weather again on Saturday, June 2, to drink to Queen Elizabeth II sitting on the throne for 60 years.
"Having a street party is an amazing opportunity for the community to get together," added Mrs Hunwick. "It's made such a difference to my life and my neighbours' lives.
"Last year I didn't know anybody on my road but now there's always someone to chat to, or somebody to borrow something from. It's really made us much closer which makes life more enjoyable."
The party organiser said she was not a royalist but that the event provided the perfect excuse for a party.
"Next year we'll have a May Day one to balance it out a little bit as we have a few republicans on the road," she added.
"It's become much easier this year because after last summer Waltham Forest Council has got better at cutting the red tape. They've paid for our public liability insurance, which we had to meet last time, and given us road closure signs."
The street party will feature a best cake competition, a children's entertainer and a raffle amongst other attractions.
