A MAN was beaten with a baseball bat close to a station at the start of the morning rush hour.
Police say they were called to reports of an attack in St James Street, Walthamstow, near its eponymous train stop at 6.45am today (Tuesday May 29).
Officers found a man in his 30s with chest injuries.
He was taken to hospital where he remains this lunchtime.
A Met spokesman said he is believed to have been assaulted with a blunt instrument, which shopkeepers at the scene say was a baseball bat.
He added: "police have cordoned the area of St James Street whilst enquires continue."
No arrests have been made.
