A MAN who recklessly ran in front of cars on a busy main road closed the route for an hour today.
Police have now arrested the "agitated" man, who ran up and down the A12 Eastern Avenue, narrowly avoiding oncoming vehicles, before he tried to run through the George Green Tunnel in Wanstead.
After being called to the scene at 12.45pm, police closed the A12 between the Green Man Roundabout in Leytonstone and the Redbridge Roundabout, causing long tailbacks stretching back to Hackney Wick in one direction.
The road reopened at about 1.50pm.
So far the police do not know the man's age or why he was running across the busy carriageways. They have not said what the man was arrested on suspicion of.
