POLICE have released CCTV footage of the moment a gunman burst through the door of an ice cream parlour intent on murder.
Temidire Owolabi, 21, of Brandon Close, Chafford Hundred, Essex, shot James Bryant at the Cakes & Shakes shop in High Road, Woodford Green last November.
Mr Bryant survived the attack, but is still recovering from his injuries after being blasted twice in the chest.
Owolabi was convicted of attempted murder at the Old Bailey, yesterday, and will be sentenced at a later date.
He had denied the shooting, but mobile phone cell site records placed him in the vicinity of Cakes and Shakes at the time.
Speaking after Owolabi was convicted, Detective Chief Inspector Kenny McDonald, from the Met’s gun crime unit, Trident, said: "The shop is on a busy high street and often frequented by children.
"With no regard for the safety of anyone in the premises, Owolabi burst through the door, raised his gun and fired it, shooting the victim twice.
"The victim is lucky to be alive. It was only by chance that no one else was hurt or seriously wounded.
“To have such complete disregard for human life is deplorable and I hope Owolabi will spend many years in prison contemplating the consequences of his actions.”
Prosecutors alleged that Owolabi had shot Mr Bryant on the orders of another man, Romain Arthur, 23.
Arthur of Hazel Way in Chingford was said to have ordered the hit after hearing that Mr Bryant had been spotted carrying his young son on a shopping trip with the child’s mother.
The jury failed to reach a verdict on allegations that Owolabi had plotted the attack with Arthur.
Arthur was cleared of two counts of perverting the course of justice.
The two men will face a retrial on charges of conspiracy to murder after which Owolabi will be sentenced.
