TRADERS are ready to turn to their MP over a leaky gas pipe which they say is costing them business.

The Guardian reported on the ongoing problems with the pipe on Snakes Lane East in Woodford Green last week.

Businesses on the parade of shops between Prospect Road and Theydon Grove say customer access is being affected by workmen constantly digging holes in the road to fix the pipe.

National Grid say the pipe does not meet its criteria for replacement.

A spokesman for the company said he anticipated work on the latest leak would be completed by Friday (May 25).

But Colin Thompson of Carpet Crazy said: “They haven’t finished, and in fact they have just dug another hole.

“It is affecting both sides of the street now and continues to make it difficult for customers to park and access shops.

“We have just had enough now and will be writing to the local MP Lee Scott and getting a petition up to have this pipe dealt with on a permanent basis.

“It’s no good patching it up. We need a permanent fix because our businesses are suffering.”
