A LAST-DITCH bid to scupper plans for a missile base on top of a tower block during the Olympics will be heard today at the High Court.
Lawyers acting for residents at the Fred Wigg Tower, in Montague Road, Leytonstone, are seeking an injunction to stop the move on the grounds that households were not properly consulted.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD), which says the missile launchers are necessary to protect the Games from potential airborne terrorist attacks, denies the claims.
Residents at the 17-storey tower fear that the missiles will make them a target but army officials say it help provide extra safety.
It has since emerged that leading councillors at Waltham Forest Council reportedly signed a secret deal with the MoD to let them use the tower block earlier this year.
The government confirmed last week it would press ahead with the plans for several missile sites across London, including at the William Girling Reservoir by Chingford.
The hearing is expected to last about half a day.
A decision is due on Tuesday.
