AN ATHLETE'S dream of competing at London 2012 has ended in heartbreak after she suffered a serious injury.
Heptathlete Louise Wood, of Kings Road in Chingford, said she is devastated snapping her achilles tendon.
The 28-year-old is ranked 5th in the UK and was confident of earning a place in Team GB, but after achieving the required level in the 110m hurdles, she suffered the injury while attempting to reach the required standard in high jump.
She said: "My whole world crumbled around me. "Everything I trained for years has gone up in flames. I was so upset. I locked myself in a room and rocked backwards and forwards for about a month.
"I thought about giving up and I got quite bitter, but I don’t want to be a bitter person so I’m trying to look at the positives."
Miss Wood has vowed to fight for a place at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014, when she will be 30.
"I hope it will be a classic British comeback story," she said.
Miss Wood is currently looking for sponsorship. Email louisewood83@gmail.com for more information.
