A DECISION on whether missiles can be based on top of a block of flats during the Olympics is due to be made today.
The High Court is set to rule on the controversial bid from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) after lawyers acting on behalf of the residents in Fred Wigg Tower in Leytonstone applied for an injunction to stop the move on the grounds that people were not properly consulted.
The tower block is one of several sites across London where the MoD hopes to place missile launchers, which would protect the Olympic Games from terrorist threats from the air.
Residents of the tower fear the missiles would make them a terrorist target, something the MoD denies.
It has since emerged that leading councillors at Waltham Forest Council reportedly signed a secret deal with the MoD to let them use the tower block earlier this year.
The government confirmed last week it would press ahead with the plans for several missile sites across London, including at the William Girling Reservoir by Chingford.
