MORE than 2,000 people turned up for the fun-filled Music in Wanstead Park, event on Saturday (June 7).
Featuring a range of activities and events for all ages, the park was transformed into a festival venue.
So strong was the enthusiasm of attendees that even the faltering weather conditions failed to dampen the good mood.
Encouraged by the positive atmosphere of the day, Alan James, husband of founder Gill James, said: “It’s a credit to the durability of the event.
“Even though the weather looked a bit iffy, people turned up. There were lots and lots of children – lots of young people.”
The festival, organised entirely by volunteers in cooperation with the Aldersbrook Families Association, also included a climbing wall, an ice rink, archery, zorbing, and a spaceball – a human gyroscope.
Highlighting the day was a performance by the band Nine Below Zero, a British blues quartet whose 35-year career has seen them open for the likes of Sting, Eric Clapton and Chuck Berry.
Now well into its 13th year, what originally began as a one-off millennium celebration in 2000 has now established itself as a summer staple on the local calendar.
“It’s a solid part of the community,” said Mr James. “Over the years it’s got better and better.”
