AN investigation has been launched over whether a developer entrusted with recreating a historic building which collapsed has broken the conditions of planning approval.
Redbridge Council has confirmed an enforcement officer will visit the site of the former Truffles shop in Wanstead High Street after a complaint from a member of the public that the wrong type of windows had been installed.
The original windows were of the sash variety, while it is claimed modern swivel windows have been installed.
The 19th century building collapsed in 2009 while the flats above were being renovated.
A council spokesman said: "An enforcement officer will visit the site later this week to identify the type of windows installed.
"Swivel windows would indicate a deviation from the approved plans. If this is confirmed, the council will ask that the correct window types are installed and will review this to ensure this happens."
The rebuild is due to be completed at the end of the summer.
