ARMED police have stormed a house and ended a tense two-hour siege in which three children were allegedly taken hostage.
Officers surrounded the property - in Cromwell Road at the junction with Barclay Road in Walthamstow Village - just before 7pm this evening (Tuesday July 10).
They spent around two hours trying to negotiate with a man inside before rushing into the home and tasering him.
He was then arrested and the Guardian saw him being brought out of the house in a stretcher by police and put into a waiting ambulance.
There are no reports of any serious injuries, although the man is being checked at hospital.
Details are sketchy but the Guardian understands it was a domestic-related incident.
A police helicopter, police territorial support officers, police dog units and an ambulance were all called to the scene and surrounding streets were closed off.
It is understood that during the siege officers tried to persuade the man to come out but he threatened them with various items including a plank of wood.
He was in an agitated state when being led from the scene by police and accused them of breaching his rights.
The ages of the children are not known at this stage.
Police say they will provide further details of what happened in the morning.
Roads in the area were reopened just before 10pm.
