A COUPLE celebrated 60 years of marriage last week.
Betty and Ben Williamson, of Rolls Park Road in Chingford, marked their diamond anniversary on Thursday, July 5 by partying with family and friends.
The great-grandparents, who have five children themselves, said they were thankful for their "wonderful" years together.
Mrs Williamson, 80, said: "It's a massive milestone and we're so happy. We've had our good times and our hard times but it's been an absolutely wonderful few days and a wonderful 60 years."
Mrs Williamson met her future husband, now 82, when he and his father came round to her mother's house to clean the house's chimneys when she was a teenager.
"We liked each other a lot and since then nothing was in question, we knew we would marry," Mrs Williamson added.
And Mr Williamson has never given up his job, still going out to sweep chimneys on a daily basis, while his wife stays at home to take the calls requesting his services.
"We're a team," she said. "We've been so lucky. We're happy and have a large family which is very close. We all get together a lot."
