A FATHER and son have recorded a song they hope could become the unofficial anthem to spur Team GB on to Olympic gold this summer.
Ben Frearson, 47, and his son Sam, 8, recorded their song 'Support Team GB' at home in Nelson Road, Highams Park, before uploading the track to Youtube earlier this month.
Viewers can go online to watch an increasingly excited Sam sing his support for the athletes who will be competing against the world's best in less than a month's time, chanting "The world's coming round to play, three crosses on our flag, Union Jacks are flying, come on Team GB!"
Its 23 views are no match for the 55,211 hits of One Vision, the official Team GB track performed by musicians Alfie Boe and Kimberley Walsh, but Waltham Forest Council officer Mr Frearson said he hopes the song's popularity will increase.
"We both love the song," he added. "We want it to grow and for more and more people to pass on the message. It's a bit of fun but also there's not been any attempts other than the official ones to make an anthem for our athletes. It's a great chance for people to get together and celebrate the Olympics. The Games will bring a lot of good to the country, it's an insiprational event in a tough time for a lot of people.
"Sam's very excited. He thinks we're going to be famous. He's an imaginative and creative boy who sings and plays the guitar so he really enjoyed himself."
Mr Frearson wrote the lyrics and then got the Selwyn Primary School pupil to sing it in front of a row of Union Jacks in his bedroom.
They hope to gain support by talking to the council about getting it played at Olympic celebrations in the borough.
