STUDENTS at Leyton Sixth Form College have been awarded after giving up hours of their spare time to spruce up its grounds.
The group, aged 16 and 17, successfully applied for £300 to buy plants and park furniture from O2's Think Big fund and have spent the last three months transforming the site's quad.
They were given a Legacy Champions Spirit Award from Envision and EDF Energy as part of a scheme which recognises youngsters using the "inspiration" of the Olympics to provide a legacy of improvements in Games host boroughs.
Student Nasurullah Hosseinim, 17, said: “We were surprised to win the award but this shows that by working together, we can do anything and overcome any challenge.
"This project will help me in the future as I have learnt some important new skills and made some great new friends".
Sanoobar Patel, marketing officer at the college, added: “The students have worked extremely hard on this project and I hope the quad they have built will leave behind a legacy for students in future years.”
