CHILDREN can enjoy their summer holidays this year by spending them at school.
More than 50 schools are set to open their doors this summer for children to enjoy a whole range of summer activities as part of Waltham Forest Council's scheme, Schools Open For Summer.
The programme, which attracted more than 8,000 kids last year, offers children the chance to play various sports as well as take part in other activities including creative writing classes.
It will also feature a Going for Gold Challenge this year to celebrate the Olympic Games, which will push young people to do the best they can in various activities before rewarding them in medal ceremonies at the end.
Council leader Chris Robbins said: "It makes no sense to lock up schools which provide the space, equipment and child-friendly environments that are needed to run affordable activities for young people.
"Each year it gets bigger and better, inspiring young people to try out new activities from acrobatics to creative writing."
The scheme runs between July 30 and August 24 and is open for children aged between five and 19, or up to 25 for those with a disability.
