CONTINUOUS wet weather has forced the council to cancel the annual Waltham Forest Mela.

The Asian fair was due to take place tomorrow (July 15).

Following a health and safety inspection of Chestnut Fields it was revealed that the site is far too muddy and waterlogged.

A council spokesman said: "We know what this event means to the community and regret the disappointment this cancellation will cause the thousands of residents who were looking forward to attending.

"We are now looking for a suitable date in order to host the event later in the year."
