A SPORTS mad youngster says she can’t wait for her big moment as an Olympic torchbearer in Redbridge.
Jess Archard who goes to Woodbridge High School in St Barnabas Road, will carry the torch in Redbridge on Sunday (July 22) after being nominated by her PE teacher.
The talented 12-year-old from Fairway in Woodford Green plays netball for Essex and also takes part in football, rounders, athletics, karate and even joins in rugby games with her brother’s team.
She said: “I want to compete in the Olympics when I’m older and I am going to start a campaign to make netball an Olympic sport.
“I have been jumping up and down with excitement ever since I found out and can’t wait until Sunday.
“All my friends will be coming to see me, and I’m a bit nervous, but I can’t wait now.”
Mum Tara, 42, said: “I will be bursting with pride when I see Jess with the torch.
“It’s amazing to think she will be taking part in such a historic event.
“We have about 40 family and friends coming to watch. It will be a very special day for everyone.”
