PUPILS from a school for physically disabled children organised their own Giving Nation Day on Monday (July 16).
As part of their citizenship lessons five classes from the senior years of Brookfield House School, in Alders Avenue, Woodford Green chose five different charities to raise money for through different activities.
After a whole term of organising, the results of their hard work was enjoyed by pupils, teachers and parents alike.
Events organised included a sponsored walk, a Jamaican food stall and an auction where a signed picture of Noel Edmunds was auctioned off at a reasonable price.
Bettina Bohn, head of the secondary department, said: "It was really really busy, everyone had a great time.
"The day gave the students a sense of helping others and supporting others. They had to organise everything from scratch by themselves."
During the organising the pupils also wrote an online blog, detailing their progress, which can be read on g-nation.org.uk.
Several hundred pounds was raised for the five charities and it is hoped in October representatives from the charities, RSPCA, Child Line, ROCKPA, Macmillan Cancer Research, and the Acorn Ward at Whipps Cross Hospital, will come to an assembly to be presented with a cheque.
Brookfield House is a community school for children aged three to 16 with pyshcial disablities or complex medical needs.
